Homemade Simple Syrup
My husband and I are big margarita fans come spring and summer. He makes THE BEST margaritas in town! I’m going to have to convince him to share his recipe with you all soon. One of the ingredients in his creation, simple syrup! The first time we made margaritas I picked some up at the store. I was shocked at the price considering what it was. It’s just sugar water! Ever since then I’ve made our own at home. It’s simple, quick, and cheap as hell. Use it in cocktails, your morning coffee, sweet tea…whatever your heart desires! And you can make it fancy by infusing it with your favorite herbs. Check out how easy this is to do below!
Homemade Simple Syrup
Ingredients:
glass jar
water
sugar
optional herbs to infuse (Rosemary, Mint, Lavender would be a great place to start)
Directions:
In a small sauce pot, bring 1 cup of water to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in 1 cup of sugar until dissolved. Let cool. Place in jar.
Option to infuse:
After you remove the boiling water from the heat, add in the sugar and the herbs. Stir until the sugar has dissolved. Let the herbs steep in the sugar water mixture until cooled. Strain the herbs out and place in jar.
Note:
This recipe can easily be doubled or tripled if needed in larger amounts. Just keep it to a 1:1 ratio of sugar and water.
This morning I used a tablespoon of homemade rosemary simple syrup in my cold brew coffee and it was perfect! Not overpowering. Just a mellow goodness. I plan to experiment more with infusing different things!
Enjoy!
Love, Nikki
